WordPress Updates
WordPress core, plugins, theme and PHP version: controlled, reversible updates, so you stay current without breaking your site.
Updates under control
Core & plugins
WordPress core and plugin updates, verified after they're applied.
PHP version
Moving to supported PHP versions, after a compatibility check.
Reversibility
Backup before updating: rollback is possible if a conflict appears.
Verification
Checking rendering and key functions after every update.
How an update unfolds
- Backup. A usable backup is created before any update.
- Update. Core, plugins and PHP updated in a controlled way.
- Verification. Checking the site and rolling back if necessary.
Why a WordPress update deserves a second look
An update looks harmless: a small number changes, a button gets clicked. Except behind that button, it's live code in production being modified. A plugin moving to a new version can very well conflict with your theme, and you're left with a blank page.
The good news is that this risk can be managed. Not by avoiding updates — a site that's never updated is a site accumulating vulnerabilities — but by always following the same method: back up first, update within a defined scope, check rendering and key functions afterward. If something's off, roll back.
In other words, it's not the update that's the problem, it's how it's done. Done cleanly, it protects your site. Done in a rush, it breaks it.
What happens when updates go without a safety net
The blank page
A fatal error after an update, and nothing displays anymore. With a backup taken just before, we get the site back on its feet and calmly look for the cause.
The theme falling apart
A style or template changes, and the layout goes sideways. Checking afterward means we catch it before your visitors do.
The plugin that refuses to update
The new version requires a different PHP or WordPress version. That shows up ahead of time when you take the time to look, not once the site is broken.
The backlog piling up
Dozens of versions behind all at once is the riskiest scenario. We proceed step by step, each stage backed up, rather than in one big leap.
What's included, and what isn't
What's included
Backup before intervention, updates to core, plugins and theme, verification after sensitive actions, and rollback if a usable backup is available.
What's out of scope
Repairing undocumented custom development, rewriting third-party code, or untangling a complex conflict that requires development work: that becomes a dedicated intervention, scoped beforehand.
How it actually works
Before touching anything, we take a backup. It's not a formality: it's what turns a stressful update into a reversible operation. Then we update within a clear scope, without triggering everything at once.
Once updates are applied, we check: the site displays, the key pages respond, the form or store works. If something's off, we return to the previous state and isolate the problem. And you get a clear report — no need to watch the screen with us.
Frequently asked questions
Can everything be updated automatically?
For small fixes, yes, no problem. For sensitive updates, it's better to have a backup and a check — so you can roll back if needed.
What happens if an update breaks the site?
If a usable backup exists, we restore the previous state, then look for the cause before trying again within a controlled framework. That's the whole point of backing up first.
Does PHP also need updating?
Often yes, because modern plugins require it. But that's handled separately, after a compatibility check — not as an afterthought of a routine update.
Why not wait until everything is "stable" before updating?
Because waiting means leaving known vulnerabilities open. The right balance: don't rush a version released the same day, but don't let months of delay pile up either.
Do you test before going live?
When the technical scope allows it, we rely on a staging environment and checks. The principle stays the same: back up, act, verify.
